Course Description
This course prepares students to provide personal care and basic health services for patients in home settings, under the supervision of a licensed nurse or health care agency. The curriculum is designed to meet California Department of Public Health (CDPH) regulations for HHA training programs and includes both classroom (theory) instruction and supervised clinical practice. The content covers the roles and responsibilities of the aide, patient safety, hygiene, nutrition, as well as skills for assisting with daily living and monitoring basic health indicators.
Upon successful completion, students may qualify for HHA state certification, allowing them to work in home health agencies, assisted living facilities, hospice care, or private home care settings.

Admission Requirements
To enroll in the HHA Training Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Certification or Enrollment

Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of California or
-
Currently enrolled in Nursing Assistant Training Academy’s CNA Training Program

Note: Applicants must be at least 16 years of age to qualify for CNA certification in California.

Application Deadline

A completed application must be submitted before the first day of class.

Educational Background

High school diploma or GED is preferred but not required.

Identification Requirements

Must present a valid California ID at the time of application submission.

Live Scan Fingerprinting

Applicants must undergo a Live Scan background check.

TB Skin Test
-
A current TB test is required prior to the first clinical experience.

If the TB skin test is positive, a chest X-ray must be completed and submitted.

Physical Examination
-
A physical exam completed within one year prior to the start of instruction is required.

Language Proficiency
-
Must be able to read and write English proficiently.

Mandatory Orientation
-
Attendance at a mandatory orientation session is required before the course start date.

Malpractice Insurance
-
Students are required to purchase malpractice insurance ($28 for 1 year).
